Is it necessary to take supplements containing methylfolate rather than folic acid?

release time:2021-11-08

The answer is “YES”.

Around 30% people have the MTHFR gene defect globally, folic acid can’t be absorbed by these people. So, it is necessary to them to use methylfolate which don’t need metabolism and can be adsorbed directly.

Maybe someone confuse that whether should use methylfolate if they don’t have the MTHFR gene defect. Certainly, we still recommend to use methylfolate.

It has been shown that folic acid only can be metabolized about 200 mcg folic acid per day. Once over 200mcg per day, unmetabolized folic acid (UMFA) would be found in your blood.

UMFA will build up in our body, disrupt our normal folate metabolism and bring a lot of healthy issues, such as Childhood autism, Gestational diabetes mellitus, decreasing immunity, etc.
